Some people here might find it very helpful to find useful resources about Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), as there is a connection to what we would call "yandere behavior".
This easy to read article gives a summary of these connections: https://yanderepsychology.carrd.co/
This archived article goes more into detail and also explains numbers and approaches to therapy: https://web.archive.org/web/20120920090826/http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1870491-1,00.html
Here are some statements taken from Lorna Smith Benjamin's book "Interpersonal Diagnosis and Treatment of Personality Disorders" that might identify if someone has BPD:
- "If someone important to me is a few minutes late, I feel abandoned and go into a panic."
- "If I like someone I have just met, I will reveal the most intimate details about all of my troubles right away."
- "I have a pattern of doing well in something important (school, job, relationship) and then suddenly dropping it altogether."
- "I recklessly give in to urges to do things which are sure to get me in trouble - like gambling, overspending, shoplifting, overeating, and so on."
- "I like to be intimate with people, and if I sense any rejection, I deliberately hurt myself by doing something like cutting or burning myself. Then I feel better." -> rather than hurting yourself, go here.
- "I can get very anxious, depressed, or irritable and then for no reason suddenly return to normal."
- "If things are going well for me, it doesn't take much to get me feeling hollow, empty, or bored."
- "I have huge blow-ups with people over whether they are taking good care of me."
- "There are times when I cannot tell what is real. I don't know if I am real."
Added to that, Peter Hobson's book "The Cradle of Thought: Exploring the Origins of Thinking" suggests an interesting connection between children with autism and mothers with BPD.
